YERRELL, Samuel – Private – 19527, 8th Bn. Bedfordshire Regt. He was of Ramsey, born 7th November 1866 at Eaton Socon, son of John & Mary YERRELL, enlisted at Huntingdon in February 1915. He died of wounds on the Western Front, where he had been since September, on Saturday, 25th December 1915, aged 49 years, and his grave is in the Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. His son, Pte. Jack YERRELL of the 2nd Bn. Sherwood Foresters, who was serving in the area, was summoned to his father’s bedside and spoke to him before he died. Another son, Sgt. S. YERRELL, who had volunteered at the age of 17, served in France and Italy, and was demobilised in May 1919. Before the War he worked on Ramsey Council and also for Alfred CATON on Bodsey Farm, Ramsey. He left a widow Annie (nee DENHAM) YERRELL, who he married at Ramsey on 15th November 1891, and family living at 2 Scotts Row, Newtown Road, Ramsey. Formerly 1304 Hunts. Cyclist Bn.
From a local newspaper his name appears as having enlisted in the Army by June 10th 1915 - Yerrell, S., Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion.
