He was born at Woodwalton, youngest son of Reuben & Sarah (nee RICHARDSON) GRAY of Speed the Plough Public House, Woodwalton/Ramsey Heights, enlisted at Ampthill, Beds. He was killed in action on Monday, 23rd April 1917, aged 32 years, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, which is located in the Faubourg-d’Amiens Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. RICHARDS, Fred – Private – 16895, 11th Bn. (Cambs) Suffolk Regt.
He was born at Benwick, son of William & Emma RICHARDS of Pondersbridge, was killed in action in France on Saturday, 1st July 1916, aged 21 years, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. He was born at Warboys, son of John & Emma RICHARDSON of Broadalls Drove, Ramsey Fortyfoot, died on Thursday, 10th October 1918, aged 27 years, and his grave is in the Salonika (Lembet Road) Military Cemetery, Greece. [Not on Ramsey memorial; on Ramsey Fortyfoot & Benwick memorials]
F [Frank] Richardson - His name appears on the Ramsey Fortyfoot memorial. This memorial is now located in the new Village hall, prior to that it could be found in the church of St Felix, that used to stand near to that site. RICHARDSON, Thomas Albert – Sergeant – 24375, M.M. and Bar., 6th Bn. Northamptonshire Regt.
He was the son of Stephen & Harriett (nee LEPLA) RICHARDSON of Oilmills Road, Ramsey Mereside, was killed in action when his battalion was attacking the enemy and were met with an enemy machine gun, he made a dash for it but was killed in the attempt. He died on Wednesday, 18th September 1918, aged 21 years, and his grave is in the Templeux-le-Guerard British Cemetery, Somme, France. He had seen three and a half years service in the Army, and more than two years were spent in France.
Lance Corpl. B. A. Roberts, son of Mr B. Roberts, Watchmaker, Ramsey, was officially reported as Killed in Action. A native of Chatteris, he left a widow, a Warboys lady and one son. Reported December 25th 1915.
ROBERTS, Benjamin Anderson – Rifleman – 6197, 2nd Bn. Kings Royal Rifle Corps.
He was born at Chatteris, Cambs, first son of Benjamin & Cassandra ROBERTS, of 5 Trafalgar Square, Ramsey, enlisted at Huntingdon. He died of wounds on Monday, 14th September 1914, aged about 27 years, and is commemorated on La Ferte-Sous-Jouarre Memorial, situated in a small park on the south bank of the River Marne, Seine-et-Marne, France. From Farcet Fen, son of Robert & Wilhelmina (nee RUFF) ROE, enlisted at Grantham, Lincs. He was killed in action on Sunday, 3rd June 1917, aged about 22 years, and was buried in the Croisilles British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. He was the son of Elizabeth & the late William ROSE, later of 19 Blunts Lane, Whittlesey, was killed in action on Thursday, 8th August 1918, aged 24 years, and his grave is in the Beacon Cemetery, Sailly-Laurette, Somme, France. born at St. Ives, son of John & Harriett Elizabeth ROSE of 48 Little Whyte, Ramsey, was killed in action during the great battle of St. Julien (France) where he was serving as a stretcher bearer. He died on Tuesday, 31st July 1917, aged 37 years, and is commemorated on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Besides his widow Ellen ROSE, he also left several children. Mr. & Mrs. John ROSE had three other sons in the Army – Bernard Charles ROSE in a Canadian Regt; Cyril J. ROSE in the Hunts. Cyclist Bn. and Fred J. ROSE in the East Surrey Regt.

ROOK, Cecil – Able Seaman – C/JX.301352, His Majesty’s Motor Torpedo Boat 671, Royal Navy.
He was born at Stamford, Lincs, son of George & Lily ROOK of Mere Farm, Ramsey Fortyfoot, was killed in action at sea on Monday, 24th April 1944, aged 20 years, and was buried in the Haslar Royal Naval Cemetery, Gosport, Hants, with full military honours. He is remembered on the Ramsey War Memorial.ROSHER, Eric – Sergeant – 1054385, No. 1 (South African Air Force) Sqdn, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
He was born 19th May 1915, son of Edwin & Elizabeth Ann (nee TILLEY) ROSHER of 106 High Street, Ramsey, who was on the ground staff of his squadron, died as the result of gunshot wounds on Wednesday, 23rd February 1944 in Italy, aged 28 years, and was buried in the Sangro River War Cemetery in the Province of Chieti, Italy. He had volunteered for the R.A.F. and had been in the service for nearly four years. A month before he died he was one of 44 men presented with the “African Star with Clasp” for his part in keeping the famous South African fighter squadron operating against the enemy all the way from the Western Desert to Italy. Before joining the R.A.F. he had been employed as a warehouse clerk on the staff of Messrs. CHIVERS & Sons Ltd. at Huntingdon, having joined the firm in 1933. He left a widowed mother, a brother, Staff Sergt. Sidney Edwin ROSHER, and three sisters. [Also on Ramsey Grammar School memorial] He is remembered on the Ramsey War Memorial.Eric ROSHER, R.A.F. His name was inscribed on the original Wooden tablet in Sports Pavilion on Playing Field at Ramsey Grammar School. This memorial tablet is now located in the main Abbey building. This Pavilion was given to the School by Old Grammarians in proud and lasting memory of the fifteen Old Boys who lost their lives in World War II.
RULE, Stanley – Private – 14596928, North Staffordshire Regt.
He was the third son of Joseph & Elizabeth RULE of Avondale, New Road, Ramsey, was accidently drowned, while on active service, in the River Severn at Shrewsbury, Shropshire, on Wednesday, 25th August 1943, aged 35 years. The funeral service took place at the Ramsey Salem Chapel, followed by interment in Ramsey Cemetery. He had only joined the Army on 5th May of the same year, and was due to come home for his first leave on 28th August. After leaving the Ramsey Council School, he served his apprenticeship with Mr. George SWEARER, carpenter and undertaker, and later worked for firms in Peterborough and London.
