DARLOW, Arthur Private 13503, 2nd Bn. Bedfordshire Regt.
He was the son of Lizzie (nee EDDINGS) & the late Eben DARLOW of Factory Cottage, Bill Bank, Ramsey, enlisted at Huntingdon. He died of wounds on Saturday, 19th June 1915, aged 18 years, and was interred in the Lillers Communal Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.

DARNELL, James Private G.13319, 11th Bn. Royal West Surrey Regt. (The Queens).
He was born at Chelsea, Middlesex, son of William & Janet DARNELL of 3 Rowells Yard, Great Whyte, Ramsey, who moved to Ramsey with his family in 1908. He was killed in action on Saturday, 23rd March 1918, aged about 22 years, and his grave is in the Douchy-les-Ayette British Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France.
DAWKES, Francis Ernest Private 9664, 2nd Bn. Bedfordshire Regt.
From Ramsey St. Marys, born 6th July 1893 at Godmanchester, son of John George & Sarah Elizabeth DAWKES, enlisted at Bedford and entered the theatre of war in France in August 1914. He had seen more than five years service, had been wounded at Mons, and was killed in action on Sunday, 30th July 1916, aged 21 years, and is commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France. DAWKES, George James Thomas Private 41409, 1st Bn. Cambridgeshire Regt.
He was born at Grafham, son of John George & Sarah Elizabeth DAWKES, of Ramsey St. Marys, enlisted at Bedford. He died on Wednesday, 26th September 1917, aged about 28 years, and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, which forms the north-eastern boundary of the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. He was born at Ramsey, son of Henry & Martha Elizabeth (nee HAWKES) DAY of 1 Marriotts Yard, Great Whyte, Ramsey, enlisted at Bedford. He died of wounds on Monday, 11th February 1918, aged 24 years, and was buried in the Noyon New British Cemetery, Oise, France.

He was born 20th July 1888 at Woodwalton, son of Henry & Martha Elizabeth DAY of 1 Marriotts Yard, Great Whyte, Ramsey, was killed in action on Thursday, 3rd May 1917, aged 28 years, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial, in the Faubourg-dAmiens Cemetery, Pas de Calais, France. Two sons of Mr. & Mrs. DAY died, and two more were serving their country Cpl. Herbert John DAY in the Bedfordshire Regt. and Pte Harry Scott DAY in the Devonshire Regt.

He was the son of William Denton & Mary Ann (nee ARCHER) AYRES of Ramsey St. Marys, was officially reported to have been killed in action at Paschendale on Tuesday, 30th October 1917, aged about 23 years, and is commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial to the Missing, which forms the north-eastern boundary of the Tyne Cot Cemetery, Zonnebeke, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. DYER, Daniel Private G/21045, 7th Bn. East Kent Regt. (The Buffs)
He was the fourth son of Daniel & Martha (nee WHITSEY) DYER, of Oilmills Road, Ramsey Mereside, was killed in action when the Fifth Army were being driven back across the former Somme battlefields. He died on Thursday, 4th April 1918, aged 20 years, and is commemorated on the Pozieres Memorial, which encloses the Pozieres British Cemetery, Somme, France. DAVIS, Philip Oscar Flying Officer 115138, 511 Sqdn. Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
He was the second son of Mrs. Sarah Elizabeth DAVIS & the late Frank Richards DAVIS of Bleak House, 23 Blenheim Road, Ramsey, was reported missing and since presumed killed on the night of Tuesday, 10th August 1943, aged 22 years, and is commemorated on the Malta Memorial, located in the area of Floriana, Malta. He joined the R.A.F. at the outbreak of the War and quickly attained his wings as a Fighter Sergeant Pilot, later being promoted to commissioned rank. After taking part in the Battle of Britain, he had just been granted the Freedom of the City of Coventry, where he had served his articles in aircraft construction. He had recently been operating from Gibralter and was actually on his way home in a bomber for a well-earned rest when the plane was reported missing. His name was inscribed on the original Wooden tablet in Sports Pavilion on Playing Field at Ramsey Grammar School. This memorial tablet is now located in the main Abbey building. This Pavilion was given to the School by Old Grammarians in proud and lasting memory of the fifteen Old Boys who lost their lives in World War II.
DAWSON, George William Flight Sergeant/Air Gunner 1875339, 466 (R.A.A.F.) Sqdn, Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve.
He was born 17th December 1924, eldest son of William Ward & Violet DAWSON of 24 New Road, Ramsey, lost his life as a result of air operations during the night of Sunday, 15th October 1944, and was buried in the Sage War Cemetery, Germany. He was the rear-gunner, one of a crew of seven, in a Halifax plane which was on an operational flight near Jackstede. Having previously been wounded in the legs during a flying operation over France, he had spent some time in a Yorkshire hospital. Before joining the R.A.F. in 1943, he was employed as an assistant at the International Stores, Ramsey. He is remembered on the Ramsey War Memorial.
DEAN, Claude Edwin (Bill) Private 5827609, 2nd Bn.Suffolk Regt.
He was the son of George & Florence (nee BRADFORD) DEAN of Ramsey Mereside, had been abroad for two and a half years when he was killed in action in Burma on Wednesday, 7th June 1944, aged 25 years, and was buried in the Imphal War Cemetery, Manipur State, north east India. Before joining up in November 1939, he was employed by his father. He left a widow Ethel (nee SNEESBY) DEAN, and a daughter Janet, living at Benwick. He is remembered on the Ramsey War Memorial.
DUFFY, Phillip Paul Sergeant/Observer 525887, 142 Sqdn. Royal Air Force.
He was killed in a plane crash while engaged in night flying operations on Sunday, 4th August 1940, aged 24 years, and was buried in Ramsey Cemetery. He left a widow Vera (nee GARTON) DUFFY. [Added to Ramsey memorial] He is remembered on the Ramsey War Memorial.
