William Frank Scarfe M. M.

William Frank Scarfe left his home at 2 Wood Street, Huntingdon, Huntingdonshire on the 12/10/1914 and enlisted at the H Q of the Hunts. Cyclists at Huntingdon. He was allocated the HCB number of 600 and posted to the 2/1st HCB.  He later held the rank of Lance Corporal.

He was wounded shortly before the 22/12/1916, the extent is not known.

He was posted to the base depot B. E. F. France on 26th July 1916, he was rationed up to and for that day. Order was part 2 No. 171 issued by W. L. Stephenson, 2/Lieut. & acting Adjutant, 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion. The order was issued at Well Camp Alford at 8-00 p.m., 28th July 1916. At this time he was transferred into the Royal Berkshire Regiment with the Army number 39275.  At the time - 27 July 1916 he was a Lance Corporal in A Co. 2/1st HCB.

William appeared on the Sunday School Roll of Huntingdon.

From a local newspaper dated 21/1/17 is a report that he was awarded the M. M. for single handedly capturing 10 Germans in a trench raid, at the time he was in the Royal Berkshire Regiment.
