Reginald M Scarr

. Reginald came from Ramsey, Huntingdonshire and enlisted in the HCB at Huntingdon Depot [St. Mary's Street] on the 03/10/1914. He was given the HCB number of 290147 and posted to the Reserve 2/1st Battalion, serving in both C and A Company.  He rose to the rank of Sergeant in the HCB.  Other records indicate that he also served in the 1st Bedford Regiment and possibly the 2/1 Scottish Horse as well.  Medal rolls indicate that he also served in the 1/1st HCB.  He was not awarded the silver war badge indicated that he was not wounded.

In an order raised at 7.00 pm, Vine Cottage, Chapel St. Leonards,0n 5 March 1917 by W. L Stephenson, Lieut. and acting Adjt. (2.1), He held the existing rank of Sergeant in C company (2.1) . His new substantive rank was to be Sergeant and was effective from 1/6/1915. This order was issued under The Army Council Instruction No.115 of 1917. ref 156/2) On the 9 July 1917 he attended a course at Pirbright for trench motar techniques. He was attached to 2/1st Scottish Horse at Sutton - le - Marsh for accommodation and rations from 27/7/1916, this was by authority of Lincs. coastal defences order 27/7/1916. At the time he was attached to 2.1 Batt. A company ref 159/1.

Under Battalion orders 55, issued by Lieutenant Colonel J. L. Stanley V. D., commanding officer of 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion issued at The George Hotel, Alford, Lincolnshire on 5th March 1917 at 7:30 pm, and signed by W. L. Stephenson 2 L/t and acting adjutant ,orders being for the following day i.e.. 6th March 1917, records indicate that he was one of the men who held the rank of acting Sergeant then being transferred to the substantive rank of Sergeant C co from 1-6-1915. The instruction was under Army Council instruction 115 of 1917.

Under Battalion orders 158, issued by Lieutenant Colonel J. L. Stanley V. D., officer commanding 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion issued at The Vine Cottage, Chapel St. Leonards, Lincolnshire on 4th July 1917 at 6-00pm., and signed by W. L. Stephenson, ( 2l/t and acting Adjutant), orders being for the following day i.e.. 5th July 1917 (Ref: 154), records indicate that he had been selected to attend a course of instruction at the trench motar school, Pirbright, assembling on 9th July 1917.  At the time he was a Sergeant in C company.
