Herbert Rands.

Herbert joined the H. C. B., enlisting at Old Fletton and was posted to the 1/1st Battalion. At enlistment he gave his address as 11 Globe Street, Albert Place, Peterborough and added he was born in St. Johns, Peterborough.

He was later transferred to the 1/8 Royal Warwickshire Regiment (T.F) with the Army number of 307722.

It was in this unit that he was Killed in Action on the 4/10/1917. 

He is remembered on panel 24 at the Tyne Cot CWGC Cemetery on the Ypres Salient.

Information taken from a local newspaper dated the 3/11/1917 = Sergeant Herbert Rands, Hunts Cyclists attached Royal Warwicks, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Bird, Globe Street, Albert Place, Peterborough, was killed in action on October 4th. Two other brothers have also made the supreme sacrifice, Pte Sidney Bird, Hunts, attached Royal Warwicks, who was killed in action about sixteen months ago, and Pte Thomas Bird, Northamptonshire Regiment, who was killed in action about five months ago.
