L / Corporal S. Phillips - 290867 - C Company - Under part 1 of Battalion orders 127, issued at The Vine Cottage, Chapel St. Leonards, Lincs. on 29th May 1917 at 6-30pm., and signed by H. B. Moss Blundell, ( 2l/t and acting Adjutant), orders being for the following day, records indicate that he was one of a number of men that were selected to attend a Hotchkiss Gun Course that was to be held at Well Grange Camp, Alford, commencing Wednesday 30th May and lasting 3 weeks.  He was instructed to rondezvous at Ingoldmells Church at 7:30 a.m. on the 30th inst. and then to proceed by cycle.  Dress was to be full marching order with all kit and bedding being stacked ready for loading at Company Headquarters at 7:00 a.m. - A Company were to arrange the transport.  During the duration of the course he was to be attached to the 2/1st. Regt. Scottish Horse for accommodation, rations and discipline.  He was to take with him the unconsumed portion of rations for the day of departure.
