John Rowland Pape.

. John Rowland Pape came from New Fletton, near Peterborough.  He enlisted at the Huntingdon H.Q. of the HCB [St. Mary's Street] on the 27/10/1914, where he was given the H C B number 830 and posted to C Company of the 2/1st Battalion HCB holding the rank of private.  Upon enlistment he gave his address as 7 George Street, New Fletton, Peterborough.

He was one of a large number of HCB men that left the east coast on the 27 July 1916 heading for France at the time he was noted as being a private in C Co. 2/1st HCB.  When in France he was transferred to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment (T. F.) where he was a private with the new Army number of 30283.  

He was posted to the base depot B. E. F. France on 26th July 1916, he was rationed up to and for that day. Order was part 2 No. 171 issued by W. L. Stephenson, 2/Lieut. & acting Adjutant, 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion. The order was issued at Well Camp Alford at 8-00 p.m., 28th July 1916. After he was wounded he went to Hospital at Lichfield (ref 6/20)

He also served as 1752 Warwicks, private, in the Training Reserve TR/7/1752.

During his time in France he was noted as being wounded o the 3rd September 1916 when he returned to receive treatment at the Litchfield hospital.  The nature and extent of his wounds was not indicated.
