"Having previously served in the Army for four years, he re-enlisted in December 1914, and was retained on important duties at home until July 1916, when he was sent to France. There he fought in the Battle of the Somme and in engagements at Thiepval and Pozieres, and was wounded in action in August 1916 and invalided to England. From January to September 1917 he served in Ireland, and in November 1917 was discharged as medically unfit for further military duties. He holds the General Service and Victory Medals. Hail Weston, St. Neots, Hunts. Z3732."

From a local paper dated 15/9/1916 = Pte. Charles Page, of Hail Weston (Cyclists Battalion), was wounded in France on the 27th Aug.., and is  now in England.

. He came from Hail Weston, Huntingdonshire when he enlisted in the H C B in 1914, as a Cook in the 1/1st Battalion, with the rank of Private and the H C B number of 1101.  He later held the H C B number of 271045.

Records indicate that he also served in the Essex Regiment with the Army number 44652.

He was wounded on the 24/8/1916 in the back, head and left leg.

Local newspapers dated 23/11/1917 state - Lance Corporal Charles Page, of Hail Weston, has been discharged from the Army. He joined the Cyclists and was wounded under the arm, in the back, left leg and head on August 27th 1916. He has been in hospitals at Newcastle, etc.

He was discharged from the Army, after being in hospital in Newcastle, November 1917.
