Frederick Oldfield.
Frederick enlisted
before the
4/6/1915 in
the H C B directly from his home in Biggleswade, at
the H. Q. of the H C B at Huntingdon where he was a private, given the
number 1260 and posted to A company of the 2/1st Battalion He was,
born in Godmanchester, Huntingdonshire, and gave his parents as
Mrs.
W. of 28 Hartford Road, Huntingdon.
Battalion Orders indicate that he was posted to the base depot B. E. F. France on 26th July 1916, he was rationed up to and for that day. Order was part 2 No. 171 issued by W. L. Stephenson, 2/Lieut. & acting Adjutant, 2/1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion. The order was issued at Well Camp Alford at 8-00 p.m., 28th July 1916. On entering France he was transferred to the 1st Bedfordshire Regiment and his Army number was 43078. He was 24 when he was killed on the 5/9/1916 on the Somme. He is remembered at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing on the Somme in France [panel 1A]. Some records indicate that he is also remembered in Huntingdon Cemetery. |
