E. F. Gowler

. E. F. Gowler - He was one of sixteen selected men of the 1/1st to be transferred to the 3rd Line East Anglian Divisional Cyclists on Tuesday < 16/10/1915 had gone to France. The day of their departure they were accorded a hearty send-off when they were paraded on the Battalion Parade Ground, and headed by the Regimental Band, were marched to the station. On the station the Band played appropriate music, while Col. Herbert the Captain chaplain (Rev K. D. Knowles), the Adjutant (Capt. Myres) and other officers said " good-bye ", and a tremendous cheer was the good-bye of the home battalion as the train steamed out of the station.  

Private E. F. Gowler - Under the heading of "THE SELECTED SIXTEEN" in a local paper dated 23/10/1915 he was one of sixteen selected men from the 1st Hunts. Cyclist Battalion has been transferred to the 3rd Line East Anglian Divisional Cyclists and has proceeded to France .
