Robert Glover Foster Robert Glover was born on the 7th September 1879 and went on, in later life to enlist in the 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion on the 14th December 1914 as private and was allocated the number 290259.   Records indicate that he enlisted on the 14/12/14.After volunteering for Imperial service he was posted to the Nelson Battalion Royal Naval Division, Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve as Able Seaman, R/3176 on the 28th August 1917.

Sadly he is recorded as being dying on Monday, 31st December 1917. His body is buried in Flesquieres Hill British Cemetery, Nord, France in grave No. V. C. 17.   One Source indicates that he was Killed by air raid at Dunkirk, 31 December 1917.

Son of Mrs. Tibiah Foster, of Piper's St, Godmanchester, Hunts. Born . He is also listed on the Godmanchester War Memorial - Godmanchester Church Memorial.

From a local newspaper dated 26th January 1918 ' Death of Godmanchester men' - 'Robert Glover Foster, Nelson Battalion R. N., son of Mrs. Foster, widow, Piper's Lane, Godmanchester has fallen in his country's service.  Lieutenant Colonel Simpson, officer in charge of records writes. 'It is my painful duty to inform you that a report has been received from the war office intimating the death of your son Robert Glover Foster on December 13th 1917.  The report is of the fact that he was killed'.  Deceased joined the Hunts Cyclists soon after the outbreak of the war.  He was a member of the local corp. of the Salvation Army, and played the bombardon for the band'.

His brother - Arthur H. Foster also served in the HCB - he too was killed and is remembered on the Godmanchester War Memorial.

It is not known if the other three Foster names on the Godmanchester Memorial were part of this extended family.
