Maurice 'Bart' Branson.

  Maurice Bart Branson came from Sawtry, Huntingdonshire. He enlisted in the HCB on the27/10/1914 at Huntingdon when he was posted to the 2/1st Battalion.

His name appears on a list of appointments and promotions that appears in local papers on 9/4/1915. He was appointed acting paid Lance Corporal, from the rank of Private, in D company of the 2/1st Battalion. Pte. M. Branson, by the 10/4/1915 he had been promoted to Acting Paid Lance Corporal in D Company of the 2/1st H C B.

During the time he served overseas he was gassed and sent back to England to recover.  He survived the war and died sometime around 1976 - he was buried in Sawtry Cemetery.

Before the war [1913] he was a member of the Fletton Victoria Prize Band.
