Herbert Butler.

. H. Butler - He was part of a contingent of 130 men of the Hunts. Reserve Battalion who had volunteered for active service in December 1914. They left from Huntingdon station in carriages attached to the 10:06 train.

He was private 43107 1st Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment. Born St Ives. Resident St Ives. Enlisted Huntingdon. 

Formerly private 1547 in the Hunts Cyclists Battalion Killed in action 23/4/1917. Aged 32. Husband of Eva Ellen Butler, The Kennels, Croxton, St Neots, Hunts. 

Commemorated on Arras Memorial. Bay 5.

From a local newspaper dated 1/12/18  -  Mrs. H. Butler, of the the Kennels, Croxton, has been informed of by the Record Office that her husband, Private Herbert Butler, Bedford regiment, died on the 23rd April 1917. He had been reported wounded and missing. Previously to joining the Cyclists he was the Hemingford rural postman. He is remembered on the St. Ives War Memorial that is situated in the car park area off the main road and square running through the town.
