Alfred Barker was born on 26th April 1894 in Stoke Newington, LondonHe was the 9th of 10 children born to Saul and Martha Barker. When he enlisted in the Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion at Warboys, Huntingdonshire, when he indicated that he was born in Broughton also in Huntingdonshire and he gave his address as 88 Dunscombe Road, Upper Holloway, London.

He was given the H C B number of 764 and posted to the 2/1st HCB.  When he was posted to France he was transferred to the 1/5th Bat. Royal Warwickshire Regt. and then into the 2/6th Bat. Royal Warwickshire Regt. and finally into  the 10th (Service) Bat. Royal Warwickshire Regt.  - All in the 48th Division. His Royal Warwickshire Regt. number was 203386.

Alfred was killed in action on 19th April 1918 whilst serving as a private in the 10th (Service) Bat. Royal Warwickshire Regt. and was buried in Lijssenthoek Military Cemetery, Poperinge, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium - grave number XXVI-G-3A.  He was 23 years of age when he died.

He is honoured on the Broughton War Memorial in Cambridgeshire.
