Percy James Ayres

. Percy was born in Broughton in Huntingdonshire in about 1894, and soon after war was declared he joined the 2/1st HCB, enlisting on the 26/10/1914 at Huntingdon - he was given the HCB number of 769.

He was one of a large number of men from the Reserve Bat. who volunteered for active service. They marched through Huntingdon behind their band on Saturday, and departed from the station in additional coaches that were attached to the 10:06 train. No destination was given for the train or the men of the Reserve Battalion. The report was in a unidentified local newspaper dated 23 Dec. 1914.

He did not serve overseas, but was given a HCB silver war badge No. B10029. to P. J. Ayres.

Notes indicate that he was discharged from them on the 21-1-1915 - aged 21 under King's Regulations 392 - but no reason was found - he did receive a silver war badge.
