Lieutenant H. D. Denman.

. Lieutenant H. D. Denman, M. C., D. C. M. - Under Battalion orders, issued by Lieutenant Colonel M. D. Barkley, officer commanding 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion issued at Beechlands, Skegness on 30th June 1918, and signed by W. J. Satchell (Captain and Adjutant), on 29th June 1918 at 4-00 p.m., records indicate that he was to proceeded in charge of a Draft for the 18th Battalion Essex Regiment, Great Yarmouth 24/6/1918, and returned 25/6/1918.


Lieut. H. D. Denman, M. C., D. C. M. - Under Battalion orders, issued by Lieut. Col. M. D. Barkley, Commanding Officer, 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion issued at Beechlands, Skegness, on 22nd August 1918, and signed by W. J. Satchell (Captain and Adjutant), orders being for the following day i.e. 30th August 1918, records indicate that he was granted leave of absence from 23/8/18 to 29/8/18 inclusive.


Lieutenant H. D. Denman, M. C., D. C. M. - Under Battalion orders, issued by Lieutenant Colonel M. D. Barkley, officer commanding 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion issued at Beechlands, Skegness on 6th September 1918, and signed by W. J. Satchell (Captain and Adjutant), on 5th September 1918 at 3-30 p.m., records indicate that he was the Subaltern of the day for the 6th September 1918.

During the time he spent ' Coast Watching'  he was the organiser for a number of Concert Parties put on to entertain the troops and the local population, who were often invited to such concerts.  Lieut. H. D. Denman was also one of the performers as can be seen from the programme. 

It is not know how or when he was awarded the M. C. or the D. C. M. but he was stated, in surviving Battalion Orders, as having them both by June 1918.

Lieutenant H. D. Denman M.C., D. C. M.- Under Battalion orders, issued by Lieut. Col. M. D. Barkley, officer commanding 2/1st Huntingdonshire Cyclist Battalion issued at Beechlands, Skegness on 16th August 1918, and signed by W. J. Satchell (Captain and Adjutant), on 15th August 1918 at 5-0 p.m., records indicate that he was ordered to proceed by train to a Board of Officers at ?Ayesughfee? Hall, Spalding on the 16th August 1918 - convening at 11:30 a.m.. He was to attend with Second Lieutenant T. A. Wainwright. They were issued with rail warrants to proceed to the meeting on the 9:40 train from Skegness. The Board of Officers was detailed under Battalion Orders No. 6 7/8/1918- and was to re-assemble at 11:30 a.m. on the 16/8/1918.
